ALTA collaborated with Hamilton Bonaduz AG to design a next-generation automated barcode reader for laboratory applications.

The objective was to move beyond the conventional appearance of laboratory instruments by creating a product that combined technical performance with a refined, recognizable design language.

The resulting solution features a compact horizontal architecture, intuitive sample loading, and a clean, user-centered interface that enhances workflow efficiency while maintaining a minimal desktop footprint.

Throughout the project, special attention was given to ergonomics, manufacturability, assembly, and visual identity, resulting in a product that is both practical for everyday laboratory use and distinctive in the marketplace.

The project concluded with complete production-ready CAD deliverables and was honored with the 2015 IBO Design Award – Silver Award for excellence in laboratory equipment design.
